Why did you choose OBGYN?
Isn’t it the best job in the world?? ha-ha …. I really enjoy the deeply meaningful relationship with patients over the course of their lifetime. I also enjoy the diverse range of activities while having a stimulating and extremely rewarding career. In one sentence: you never get bored in this field. I am a thrill seeker and nothing can fuel my adrenaline rush more than saving lives in the OR. Oh and have I mentioned the ecstatic feeling of your patients sharing the most magical moment of their lives with you? Absolutely priceless.
Why do OBGYN at UCSF Fresno?
What influenced me to rank this program high was the huge load of patients and diverse pathology especially high risk OB patients combined with resident’s challenging responsibilities and autonomy all of which make this program a great place to get trained in. To me, it was important to stay in California and I think life is much easier and more affordable as a resident here in Fresno while you still have easy access to major cities as well as close proximity to multiple nature’s gems. We are a small group of residents trying to be as supportive to each other as we can both professionally and in personal life.
I was born, raised and went to medical school in Iran. Then I moved to Canada’s beautiful British Columbia and did grad school in public health in Vancouver. In 2013, I moved to the Bay Area and pursued postdoctoral training in oncology followed by two years of pathology residency at Stanford but throughout my training, every OB/GYN contact came back to how much I enjoy working in the field and I realized I wouldn’t be happier anywhere else and decided to switch specialties and was lucky enough to get in with a great support from my mentors, faculty and co-residents at my prior training program.
Outside of Medicine, I enjoy doing art/cultural activities with my husband, Kaveh, who is an artist as well as hanging out with my friends and family. I used to be a member of my collage swimming team and I am a huge tennis fan and have been trying to improve my playing skills for years but let’s just leave it there! My biggest achievement in life was winning a photography contest competing with professional photographers. Needless to say that it was obviously a lucky incident but I’m still very proud and motivated to pursue my huge passion in photography!
