Hobbies, facts and interests

In a previous life I was a caveman.  I love anything outdoors: climbing, backpacking, trail running, mountain biking, skiing, snowboarding, cooking (ie grilling meat), live music – all with my dog (especially playing music).  Love to travel and hitchhike and hit the road any chance I get.  Big interest in wilderness medicine, international medicine, disaster relief and EMS.  Worked as an EMT before med school and co-founded The Nepal Ambulance Service.  Two laws of life: life’s too short to drink bad wine, and a kiss without a mustache is like a meal without cheese (both quotes from my father).

Why Fresno?

It’s hard to find a population that better mimics an international healthcare setting than this.  Huge volume, incredibly high acuity, and very little access to primary care.  All this makes for the perfect place to get the best training to be a bad-ass ER doc.  Not to mention the city is affordable and you have the mountains in your backyard and the ocean on the other side.
