Betty, Liao, Ph.D.

Betty Liao is the primary clinician overseeing the operations of UCSF Fresno Physician Wellness and Mental Health Support Services.  Additionally, she teaches and supervises within the Department of Psychiatry; and she see patients in the community through University Psychiatry Associates.  Dr. Liao is a licensed clinical psychologist. She completed her doctoral training at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and postdoctoral training at University of California, San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine. Thereafter, she has worked as a psychologist in private practice. The overarching theme to her clinical training has been the utilization of evidence-based interventions for the treatment of mood, trauma, anxiety, and stress-based conditions. Her clinical training is complemented by an extensive research background in anxiety and trauma, with emphasis on translational research aimed to optimize exposure therapy for the treatment of anxiety disorders. Her areas of special interest include: emotional resiliency, mindfulness, depression and anxiety, trauma, physician wellness, interpersonal effectiveness, and dysregulated eating.  During her time off, Dr. Liao is a constant gardener and enjoys spending time in the mountains with her family.
