TRAINING FACILITIES
The training institutions affiliated with the UCSF Fresno Psychiatry Residency Program represent a broad range of health care facilities operated by county, state, and federal governments and nonprofit corporations. Services provided in these facilities include acute inpatient, outpatient, and day treatment programs for adult and geriatric patients; specialized treatment of children and adolescents; consultation-liaison psychiatry in both inpatient and outpatient settings; forensic psychiatry; and emergency psychiatry in a general hospital with one of the busiest emergency rooms in California.
Staff and faculty in these affiliated facilities, along with psychiatrists in private practice who supervise residents’ psychotherapy, meet regularly to evaluate and plan for the ongoing operation of the program. The focus of the program is to provide each resident with experience in the evaluation and treatment of the broadest possible range of patients and psychiatric problems.
The UCSF Fresno Center for Medical Education and Research is a state-of-the-art Center for Medical Education and Research. Serving as the hub of medical education and research for the entire Central Valley, the UCSF Fresno Center features a high-tech, multi-media auditorium, advanced A/V-supported conference rooms with full teleconferencing services, a digital medical research library, clinical skills laboratories with digital recording capabilities, and an outdoor amphitheater. This three-story, 82,000 square-foot facility houses the residency programs and administrative staff of UCSF Fresno under one roof.
Community Regional Medical Center (CRMC) is a large general hospital in Fresno that is a 100-year-old not-for-profit provider and the largest supplier of adult health care services in the Central Valley. It is the central teaching hospital of UCSF Fresno and offers more than 100 residency positions in several specialties. CRMC is the major training site for rotations in Consultation-Liaison and Emergency Psychiatry.
At the base of the Veterans Affairs Central California Health Care System is their Fresno-based general hospital, a major teaching institution of UCSF Fresno. The psychiatric services at the VA consist of an inpatient service, outpatient service, inpatient and outpatient chemical dependency programs, a dual diagnosis day treatment program, and behavioral medicine/consultation-liaison services. The VA is a major training site for the psychiatric inpatient and outpatient rotations as well as for the medicine and neurology rotations.
University Psychiatry Associates (UPA) is a joint venture between UCSF Fresno and the Central California Faculty Medical Group (CCFMG) and is a University Center of Excellence. This private outpatient clinic located on the CRMC campus serves as the primary longitundinal training site for psychiatry residents at UCSF Fresno.
Community Behavioral Health Center is a 61-bed acute care facility and a major inpatient training site for the residency.
The Kaiser Permanente Mental Health Department, located in north Fresno, provides a comprehensive array of psychiatric services to over 110,000 regional members. The department maintains a large multidisciplinary staff and offers a wide array of clinical services, including adult psychiatry, child/adolescent psychiatry, an intensive outpatient programs for adults and adolescents, chemical dependency services, and a behavioral medicine/consultation-liaison service.
Fresno County Department of Behavioral Health provides a full-service community mental health center. Rotations are offered in the outpatient and crisis intervention services.
The Alzheimer & Memory Center is a multi-disciplinary evaluation, referral and research center operated by UCSF Fresno.
Elective rotations are available at Kaiser Permanente of Fresno and the CSU Fresno Student Health Center.
