Thank you for your interest in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of California, San Francisco, Fresno campus. Program Statistics

Situated in California’s Central San Joaquin Valley, UCSF Fresno provides residents with a comprehensive background in both the depth and breadth of general OBGYN including procedural training that is at or above the national median. These numbers represent both the depth of experience and our dedication towards providing an environment which educates and trains through hands on experience.

UCSF Fresno leverages the area’s high fertility to provide above average experience in obstetrics. Additionally, UCSF Fresno serves as the region’s only maternal-fetal transport providing training for residents in all levels of obstetrical care.  As a program that does not have fellowship training, our residents receive an above average depth of experience that prepares them for independent practice; especially in areas with inadequate MFM back-up, those pursuing laborist positions, or those considering MFM fellowships.

As the only referral center within a 100-mile radius, Gynecologic experience at UCSF Fresno provides the depth of experience necessary to develop our residents’ surgical skills.  Building on these skills, the program provides opportunity to develop alternate surgical strategies using laparoscopic and hysteroscopic techniques. Graduates leave the program competent and confident in the core surgical skills needed by OBGYN generalists. The ample volume of more advanced surgery cases provides the foundation for our graduates to address and assist in specialized surgeries.
