Message from the Chair

Amy Autry, MD
Department Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology
With continued accreditation from ACGME’s OBGYN Residency Review Committee, we strive to achieve an ideal balance of service and education. This results in obstetric volumes in the 70th percentile nationally and gynecologic procedure counts in the 40th to 70th percentiles. While you will work very hard on our busy clinical services, you will also be expected to carry on our tradition of academic excellence: for eight years running, 100% of our graduates who started in our program have passed their written boards on the first attempt. In addition, you will participate in research and quality improvement projects during your four years of training. Our department has many on-going active research projects and we provide dedicated research staff to support resident and faculty research endeavors.
The UCSF Fresno experience is more than just taking care of patients and studying. It is about learning and sharing. Because we are a relatively small program, there is very close involvement of faculty in teaching and mentoring, and residents have a special camaraderie that is unmatched in other programs. Residents do not hesitate to help each other on the wards, in the clinic, or on their research programs. Residency is a very challenging time personally as well as professionally, and we believe that it is through this kind of faculty and peer support that we can create the ideal learning and patient care environment.
We seek to find good physicians who have the desire to excel clinically, academically, and interpersonally to join us as members of a proud team that cares for a highly diverse and largely underserved population. On this team you will work hard and study hard, but you will also have the time of your life, and when you are finished, you will fear nothing, because you will have seen it all.
