Retreats
Resident bonding, team building, and leadership skills are fostered via multiple retreats throughout residency training. It is protected time away from clinical duties to relax, refresh, and revitalize. We also discuss multiple topics relevant to your level of training and preparation for the year ahead.
Intern Retreat: Teambuilding at Wonder Valley
The first retreat of residency is historically held at Wonder Valley. Interns spend the day doing multiple teambuilding exercises including: ropes courses, zip-lining, canoe races, rock climbing, and more! This is the time when the intern class connects outside of the hospital and discusses wellness, stress management, time management/efficiency, and enhanced communication skills.
Intern Retreat: Resident as Teacher at Tenaya Lodge (Yosemite)
Annually held in the Spring, this overnight retreat involves preparing for the transition from intern to senior resident. We build leadership skills, discuss the responsibilities of supervising interns and medical students, review strategies to enhance teaching and clinical reasoning as well as provide basic financial counseling. Afternoon activities are concluded by a group dinner with program leadership and an intern happy hour.
PGY-2 Retreat: Preparing for graduation and beyond at Dream Inn (Santa Cruz)
This overnight retreat in the wintertime readies residents for their PGY-3 year including: fellowship and job interviews, preparing your CV, financial planning, and other areas of career development. Enjoy a beachside dinner in beautiful Santa Cruz followed by wine tasting and more!
