Hobbies, fun facts and interests
Outdoor playtime (hiking, mountain biking, skiing, climbing, paddling, hammocking, grilling, picnicking, etc.).  Travel (often a source of inspiration, always a source of perspective).  Music (listening, seeing live performances, playing guitar, being played by the banjo).  Food (cooking, eating, appreciating).  Spending time with family, friends, and my wonderful partner - and also our dogs and rapidly growing collection of plants.

Professional Interests
EMS/Prehospital Emergency Care, EM Research, Wilderness Medicine

Why Fresno?
Fresno was an excellent fit for both me and my partner, who grew up in the Bay Area and has family nearby – she will be training with the UCSF Fresno Family Medicine program.  A few of my reasons:  1. The opportunity to care for a diverse and underserved patient population while training in a high-volume and high-acuity Emergency Department with exceptional faculty, department-based social services for patients, and a focus on resident education.  2. The faculty and residents here: consummate professionals who are passionate about medicine and their patients, but also super fun and unpretentious with diverse interests and backgrounds.  3.  Proximity to mountains, with Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada a short drive away.  4. Opportunity to work with the Parkmedic program.  5. Abundant farmers’ markets, delicious produce, copious tacos, free parking, no traffic.

Hobbies, fun facts and interests
I love anything in the outdoors. Most of my free time is spent hunting and fishing, but I also love surfing, backpacking, and free diving. My wife and I love to cook, especially with the delicious fish/animals/plants/ occasional fungi that we harvest from nature and our garden.

Why Fresno?
The most compelling reason for Fresno is the amazing training. I think it is easily among the best training in the country. Nuff said. On top of that, I grew up here and I know that it’s an awesome place to live. The outdoor scene is legit. There are endless places to explore from the valley floor up to the Sierra crest. Year round there is something to do outside! Even in the (hot) summer, you can easily escape the heat with a 45 min drive up to the mountains. During the winter you can ski AND surf in the same day (beach is only 2.5 hours away)! It’s also cheap to live here by California standards...you can live in a house and have a big garden on a resident salary. For me, Fresno has the ultimate combination of incredible training with a very livable city with excellent outdoor recreation opportunities.

Hobbies, fun facts and interests
Trail running, climbing, mountains, flowers, snuggling my cats, walking my dog, drinking coffee in the morning, playing/listening to music, completing the junior ranger programs at various parks, smelling candles at TJ Maxx, learning about racism and systemic oppression, dismantling the cis/white/heteropatriarchy. EM interests: health equity and social EM, environmental medicine, wilderness medicine.

Why Fresno?
I'm biased because now I'm here! So many things make me excited about UCSF Fresno - the lovely blend of community/academic/county medicine, diversity in patient population that serves affluent as well as underserved communities, willingness to talk about and do something about diversity in the program, residents who are super excited about what they're working on in medicine who also like to be in the mountains and/or have a beer, and the Parkmedic program. Also, I can live in a house with a yard for my doggo and park in a garage and not drive in traffic and be in the Sierra in a short drive. I'm so grateful to be here!

Hobbies, fun facts and interests
I'm a lover of all things water, and I grew up swimming, surfing, fishing, diving, tide pooling, etc., any chance I got. Fortunately for my wife, who is still learning to be a water creature, I enjoy spending time in the mountains, too - we actually got engaged climbing a big wall in Yosemite! My love language is cooking and baking. So, like every good millennial worth their salt, I spent my shelter-in-place time perfecting my sourdough bread (my starter’s name is Bubbles).

Why Fresno?
I chose Fresno because I knew it was a place where I could become the best emergency medicine physician I could be and still have opportunities to explore my interests in research, toxicology, EMS, and wilderness medicine. I left my interview day knowing that Fresno was the right place for me.

Hobbies, fun facts and interests
My professional interests include health equity, critical care, physician wellness and medical education, specifically how to improve medical school curricula.

During my free time I enjoy visiting art museums, running, watching documentaries and standup comedy, dancing, Zumba and listening to podcasts while cleaning.

Why Fresno?
I knew that if I wanted to be the best Emergency Medicine physician I could be, I needed to be at a place that would provide a broad range of experiences. I became a physician to serve my community, so I wanted to train at a residency that served a large Latinx/Spanish speaking population. During interviews, Fresno was the only place that blew me away with its incredible training, collaborative environment and genuine care for resident wellness. And finally, this outstanding residency program has a longstanding tradition of commitment to high quality education, which perfectly aligned with my goals of being a physician-educator. I cannot wait to see the incredible physicians that my co-interns and I will become after this residency!

Spending time with my fiancé Francisco and our pup Kodi! Yoga, hiking, dancing (salsa anyone?), reading (lovin' audiobooks, too!), cooking, trying new activities! I LOOOVE potluck-BBQ hangouts!

Why Fresno?
The Central Valley is home and Fresno has a lot to offer its residents and its community. I am excited to working in Central Valley population of Fresno. There is so much opportunity here from educating our patient population as well as mentoring aspiring physicians from the local universities such as UC Merced, CSF Fresno, CSU Stanislaus, and Fresno Pacific University. The opportunity of teaching future physicians aside, we also have the wonderful outdoors just a couple hours away! Wonderful location and wonderful people!

Hiking, climbing, eating dumplings, eating in general, and parenting my 9-month-old pug.

Academic interest
The intersection of climate change and human health, particularly adaptation, extreme weather events, heat health, pre-hospital medicine, and disaster preparedness and response.

Why Fresno?
I am so grateful and excited to train at UCSF Fresno and CRMC. There are so many aspects of the program that completely blew me away during my interview (the high patient volume and acuity, the diversity of the patient population, the number of procedures logged by residents, the proximity to some of the most beautiful national parks in the country). What really stood out to me though was the kindness and overall awesomeness of the residents, faculty, and staff. Thank you UCSF Fresno EM for this opportunity!

Hobbies, fun facts and interests
Playing sports (rugby, basketball, soccer, ultimate Frisbee; open to trying anything and everything at least once), weight lifting, novice surfing, hiking, traveling internationally, learning to play the guitar, drinking coffee in excess, beach bumming with a book in hand and general outdoor adventures.  International Medicine, Global Health, Community Health, Social EM, disaster relief, working with underserved and marginalized communities

Why Fresno?
From day one of my rotation at CRMC, I knew that this program would train me to become a clinically strong and compassionate EM physician. The faculty, residents, nurses, and support staff work together like a well-oiled machine to care for their patients and are clearly passionate about what they do. The highly diverse patient populations, high volume, and vast pathology at this program all make for an excellent training experience that will prepare me to practice in any setting. With a strong combination of county-like experience and academia, I found exactly what I was looking for here. Also, all those hiking trails and gorgeous scenery!
