Medical School Authorization Form: All non-UCSF visiting students are required to have a letter from the home school stating the current standing with authorization for student to take the requested elective. Once a student completes the online electronic application, they will receive a notification email along with the required authorization form which is to be completed by the home school and returned to UCSF Fresno.
Health Insurance: Students are required to maintain health coverage from their primary school or it must be obtained within 5 days of arriving in Fresno. Proof of insurance coverage may be required from any student not covered by their home school.
Immunizations: Students will be asked to submit documentation of immunization status – including current TB/PPD documentation.
Malpractice Insurance: Students must provide proof of malpractice coverage with the home school (exceptions for summer program enrollment will be considered). Minimum coverage is $1,000,000 per incident / $3,000,000 aggregate.
Fees: All non-UCSF visiting students pay an elective application/processing fee. The standard processing fee starts at $125 per education timeframe up to 4 weeks for the first three rotations. On the fourth rotation and after, the fees increase to $150 per 4 week timeframe. The UME office will notify students of all fees due at the time of application. The cost for housing is $200 per 4 week block. All fees are due at the time of application-no exceptions. Separate checks recommended. Make checks payable to UC Regents. Credit cards not accepted.
International/Offshore Fees: The processing fee for students within this category is $150 per 4 week timeframe. These fees are generated by the UME Office based on an exception to policy.
Board Scores and Transcripts: Students applying for elective rotations in Emergency Medicine or Internal Medicine may be requested to provide a copy of board scores and school transcripts directly to the clinical department. This should be done prior to initiating the online application. Students applying for any EM or IM electives should contact the department for information on submitting the board scores or transcripts. Once this prerequisite is complete, then student may go to the Applications and Forms section to continue with Step 1.
VA Hospital: Students completing rotations at the VA Hospital must complete a series of forms and fingerprinting as mandated by the government. Students will be notified via email approximately 4 to 6 weeks in advance in order to complete the VA paperwork. Please review the section on VA requirements. All VA forms may be submitted after the elective application process has begun.
