Each student works in an independent manner with a faculty mentor daily on a research project for approximately 6-8 weeks, beginning in early June until early August.

There are field trips scheduled including a visit to the main campus of UCSF and to UC Merced. These trips are scheduled in mid- late July. There are several other local field trips or visits to different aspects of the UCSF program including informal discussions with UCSF medical students and residents, viewing surgery, selected Grand Rounds by various residency programs, and an "application to college" presentation by UC staff.

There is no cost for the program to the student. Some scholarship funds are available to help offset the costs of transportation and meals. A stipend is provided at the end of the program.
