MEDICAL STUDENTS
UCSF Fresno offers core clerkships to medical students in family and community medicine, internal medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, pediatrics, psychiatry and surgery. First priority is given to UCSF students; however, visiting students may participate if they meet eligibility criteria and if space permits. Elective clerkships are offered to UCSF and visiting students in the above areas as well as in dermatology, emergency medicine and neurology.
The basic psychiatric clerkship, based at the Community Regional Medical Center and the VA Medical Center, can be individualized to meet the unique needs of each student. On the average, two to four UCSF students rotate to Fresno psychiatry at any given time. The residents in our program are actively involved in teaching medical students assigned to the acute inpatient service, outpatient services, emergency room and the consultation-liaison service.
In addition to both core and elective clerkships, UCSF Fresno offers other
special opportunities for medical students. The Model Fresno program is available
to 3rd year UCSF students for an intensive six-month period of hands-on clinical
training in primary care settings. The Medical Spanish and Clinical Skills
course is available to 1st and 2nd year UCSF students. Visiting 1st and 2nd
year students can participate in the popular summer rural preceptorship program.
