Welcome to the website for the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program at the University of California, San Francisco, Fresno. Our fully accredited program blends clinical, research and educational opportunities preparing graduates for private practice, academic careers, or subspecialty fellowships.
The residency program is based at Community Regional Medical Center, which serves a large and diverse patient population. Our hospital is the only tertiary care center in our region and operates the largest emergency room in California, and the only level on trauma center between Los Angeles and Sacramento. More than 6,000 births occur annually at CRMC, and high risk OB patients are referred from fifteen hospitals in a region delivering 50,000 babies per year.
Primary Care ObstetricsThe residency training program delivers approximately 2,400 deliveries a year, a significant portion of which are high risk. In conjunction with our staff of mid-level practitioners residents deliver a full range of low risk prenatal care services. Management decisions always originate with the resident, under the supervision of senior residents and attending staff.
Primary Care GynecologyOn the gynecologic service, residents become familiar with a comprehensive set of skill of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including urodynamics, coloposcopy, cystoscopy, and major and minor surgical procedures.
Gynecologic OncologyThe gynecologic oncology service provides diagnostic procedures, radical surgeries, chemotherapy and humane terminal care. Residents operation one-on-one with the faculty gynecological oncologist. The service also participates in investigational protocols.
Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive SurgeryPatients are referred from both our primary care practice and from community physicians to our pelvic floor medicine clinic where they receive comprehensive workup and medical and surgical treatment for disorders of the pelvic floor and incontinence.
Maternal and Fetal MedicineThe Division of Maternal and Fetal Medicine is staffed by three perinatologists. Residents participate fully in the care of our high risk patients and receive hands-on training in cervical cerclage, external cephalic version, and other high-risk procedures. Ultrasound training includes vaginal probe, basic and targeted transabdominal, Doppler, 3-D, and fetal echocardiography under the direct supervision of the faculty perinatologists. Residents actively participate in antepartum testing, genetic evaluations, and amniocentesis procedures. Consultations are provided in medical complications of pregnancy, preconceptual counseling, diabetes in pregnancy, fetal medicine, is immunization, fetal and genetic abnormalities, and pregnancy complications. Our perinatal practice and hospital serve as the hub of a growing regional perinatology and transport program serving six counties with a delivery volume of approximately 50,000 deliveries.
