FACULTY & INSTRUCTIONAL STAFF

This program has fully trained and experienced obstetricians/gynecologists who are primarily committed to resident training. The program includes subspecialists in gynecologic oncology, perinatology and reproductive endocrinology/infertility. In addition, the program has an integrated physician/nurse midwife faculty.


Conrad Chao, MD
Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology
OB/GYN Residency Program Director

Dr. Conrad Chao, the Department Chairman and Program Director of Obstetrics and Gynecology, is a graduate of the University of Illinois College of Medicine and the OB/GYN residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.  He served his fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Physiology at Loma Linda University and Oregon Health Sciences University.  His research has included work in basic neuroscience focusing on the control of fetal cerebral blood flow and metabolism, hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, perinatal pharmacology, and fetal behavior, as well as, in clinical investigation, in which he directed a unit of the NIH Maternal-Fetal Medicine Network as well as serving as Associate Program Director for a General Clinical Research Center.  Dr. Chao’s research focuses on novel strategies for the mathematical analysis of Doppler ultrasound waveforms and the clinical management of post-dates pregnancy. 

Michael Ebaugh , MD, PhD
Assistant Clinical Professor

Dr. Ebaugh earned his Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Texas at Austin, and his M.D. degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He served his fellowship at Parkland Memorial Hospital. He has experience as a researcher in Perinatal Medicine and Immunology, and as a lecture in Molecular Biology, Immunology, Virology and Bacteriology. Additional he was the McLaughlin Pre-doctoral Fellow in Microbiology for three years. Dr. Ebaugh has also spent ten years in private practice.



Lorraine Farkas, CNM
Clinical Instructor

Lorraine graduated from California State University Fresno in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Public Health Nursing.  She has extensive experience in women's health care including Public Health Nursing, Childbirth Education and ten years as a Labor and Delivery nurse prior to graduating as an OB-GYN Nurse Practitioner from Education Programs Associates/California State University, San Jose.  Lorraine completed Certified Nurse Midwifery training in 1993 and since has worked as a Clinical Instructor with UCSF Fresno Residency Program and in private practice.  She is a past president of the local chapter of the American Academy of Nurse Midwifery.

 


Brian Morgan, MD
Associate Clinical Instructor

Dr Morgan earned his BSc, MSc and PhD at the University of London. He then took up an appointment at The Institute of Human Nutrition at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons where he ran a graduate program in human nutrition and pursued his research interests in fetal programming and brain development. After a term as Acting Director of The Institute of Human Nutrition he left Columbia and obtained his MD at the University of Miami, where he also completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology. After residency he moved on to Harbor UCLA where he did a fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine, joined the faculty as an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and was appointed a WRHR scholar. His research focused on fetal programming and its effects on genomics. He now joins us at the UCSF, Fresno educational program where his role is to assist in developing a research program in maternal-fetal medicine, teaching medical students and residents and creating outreach clinical opportunities for resident training.


Michael O'Shaughnessy, MD
Associate Clinical Professor

Dr. O'Shaughnessy is a graduate of Dartmouth Medical School and the UCSF Fresno OB/GYN Residency Program. His chief clinical and teaching interests are in urogynecology and pelvic floor reconstructive surgery. He is director of the urogynecology clinic at UMC. Dr. O'Shaughnessy received the Kaiser Award for Clinical Teaching from UCSF in 1999 and was co-recipient of the UCSF Fresno Research Award in 1998. His current research activity includes paravaginal defect repair, primary perineal body repair, and the levator ani syndrome.



Heather Peters, MEd, PhD
Educational Administrator

Heather received her Ph.D. in post-secondary and adult education in 2007 from Capella University. She brings to the department a background in education and evaluation. With her guidance, the department has aligned medical practice with educational principles to create a comprehensive and individualized training for each resident. Her educational research focuses on the mentor-resident relationship’s contribution to improved learner efficacy.


Juan Reyes, MD

Associate Clinical Professor

Dr. Reyes is a graduate of the UCSF School of Medicine and the UCSF Fresno OB/GYN Residency Training Program. He is currently the Director of the Women's Health Center at University Medical Center. His teaching interests include outpatient gynecology, hysteroscopy, and endometrial ablation techniques.
