A DAY IN THE LIFE...of a UCSF Fresno Ob/Gyn Resident

The OB/GYN Residency Program at UCSF Fresno provides a structured educational experience designed to prepare the graduating resident equally well for independent general practice of obstetrics and gynecology or for further subspecialty training.  The overall educational objectives of the program are derived from the core competencies set forth by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education: (1) Patient Care; (2) Medical Knowledge; (3) Interpersonal and Communication Skills; (4) Professionalism; (5) Practice-Based Learning and Improvement; and (6) Systems-Based Practice.

“THE CENTRAL VALLEY EXPERIENCE”
Because of the hospital location, the referral area extends throughout the Central Valley of California.  Residents experience a wide range of pathology with varying levels of acuity.  Because of the program size, residents work directly with subspecialists and there are no fellows “competing” for patient care.

“PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT”

UCSF Fresno offers many opportunities to improve procedural and surgical skills throughout the year.  We created a gynecologic surgical simulation lab with laparoscopic simulators available for resident use at any time.  We collaborated with Sutter Medical Center and Ethicon Endo-Surgery to practice the fundamentals of laparoscopic surgery at the annual PIG Lab.  We run mock codes with the Noelle Maternity Simulator, a full sized articulating female mannequin with an articulating birthing baby.

“BECOME PART OF THE FRESNO FAMILY”
Our faculty, residents and staff share a deep commitment to the education, research and outreach goals of the department and to the health and wellness of each other.  This creates an environment in our department where people work hard to make a difference in the lives of others and have a great time doing it!  When you come to Fresno, not only will you get excellent training to become a great obstetrician/gynecologist, you gain a second family.
