DEANS TO FRESNO PROGRAM
During the reception, Bruce Spaulding, vice chancellor of university advancement and planning for UCSF, will make a special presentation to former State Senator Jim Costa. Costa is being recognized for his efforts in helping to secure funding for UCSF Fresno’s Medical Education and Research Center, which is scheduled to open in the summer of 2004.

Background UCSF Fresno is directly responsible for providing a pipeline of physicians to serve the valley community. Since 1974, UCSF Fresno has trained approximately 2200 doctors. More than 50 percent of its graduates have remained in the valley to practice. UCSF Fresno provides annual training for 300 third and fourth year medical students and approximately 175 medical residents annually in one of seven specialty areas including: internal medicine, family practice, surgery, emergency medicine, psychiatry, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology.
