March 26, 2002 Medical School Magnet Created in Fresno Unified—UCSF Fresno Docs Host Summer Med Camp
Just as Roosevelt High School is the official School of the Arts, McLane High School will be the official magnet school for medical education and research in Fresno Unified School District. Thanks to an approximate $9 million Federal grant, over 400 students from Fresno Unified School District can attend McClain High School to train for careers in medical education. The Summer Session—UCSF Fresno’s Med Camp—is concluding its program on Thursday, August 15, at 11am with a graduation ceremony. Over 200 people will be in attendance to witness the first class of Med Camp graduates. Background McLane High School’s Medical Education and Research Academy’s mission is to provide a challenging, well-balanced curriculum that promotes academic excellence, scientific curiosity and a dedication to community service. The mission prepares students for a post-secondary education focusing on careers in the medical profession. UCSF Fresno’s medical residents provide the training for Med Camp throughout the 10-week program.
