UCSF FRESNO PRESENTS MEDICAL MANIA CONFERENCE FOR AREA HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

UCSF Fresno’s Latino Center, Sunnyside High School and CSU Fresno Health Careers Opportunity Program will host the third-annual Medical Mania Conference for Doctor's Academy high school students on Saturday, April 5.

The one-day event is scheduled for 7:15am to 12:00pm at CSU Fresno University Center, Room 200. Joan Voris, MD, associate dean for UCSF Fresno, will deliver the keynote address at CSU Fresno, University Center, Room 200. Parents and students will be formally welcomed to CSU Fresno by campus Provost, Dr. Michael Ortiz.

The Medical Mania conference provides an opportunity for area high school students to participate in professional workshops where guest speakers present topics ranging from medicine to personal development.

The workshop topics include:

• "Test Taking Strategies," by Lawrence Doyle from UCLA

• "Transitions—Getting Ready to Start College," by Jerilynn Agee, PhD, from UC Berkeley

• "Sports Medicine," by Robert Agee, MD

• "Fun with Pharmacy," by Mitra Assemi, PhD, from UCSF Fresno Pharmacy Program

• "Advocating for Your Child," by Diana Rodriguez from Sunnyside High School, and Gloria Watts from the UCSF Latino Center

• "Finding Scholarships for Your Child," by Cyndee McDonald from Fresno County Office of Education

• "Parenting a College Student: Transition of Roles," by Brian Olowude, PhD, from CSU Fresno.

Newly admitted Doctor’s Academy students and the first graduating class will be recognized. The Doctor’s Academy Program is supported by UCSF Fresno Latino Center.
