RESEARCH
We at UCSF Fresno feel strongly that scholarship and research is an important aspect of any good Internal Medicine residency. Our faculty’s scholarly works focuses on clinical research and is supported through the UCSF Fresno Center for Clinical Studies. Residents are encouraged to work with a research mentor during their residency and complete a scholarly project that can be presented at a regional/national meeting or be published. Dr. Simon Paul, a generalist with expertise in HIV, directs the research curriculum and provides advice and support for residents in their research projects. Residents are also allowed to take the UCSF Clinical Research Training Course offered each year in Fresno. We have a broad range of research activities in our department supported both by industry and by the NIH. These studies currently include HIV treatment trials, hepatitis trials, nutrition research, research in cellular respiration, research in neuro-oncology, stroke management, sepsis, diabetes, preventive cardiology, and adult respiratory distress syndrome.
