Central California Research Symposium

The Central California Research Symposium announces its Twenty-Eight Annual Call for Abstracts.  The abstracts are due by Monday, March 17, 2008.  Abstracts must be submitted online at http://orsp.csufresno.edu/abstracts08.asp .
The Symposium will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at California State University, Fresno University Business Center beginning at 12:30 PM.  The Symposium serves as a vehicle to share recent research from community investigators, university faculty, students, and medical residents and to encourage research activity in the Central Valley.  Comparative analysis, data and results of completed research or research in advanced stages of completion must be described in the abstract.  Authors should indicate their preference for either oral or poster presentations.  Call 559 278-0840 for more information.


RESIDENT AND FELLOW RESEARCH AWARDS

THE TWENTY-SECOND ANNUAL BORBA HOUSESTAFF RESEARCH AWARDS will be presented at the UCSF Graduation on Thursday, June 12, 2008.  We would like to encourage all residents and fellows to submit their original research for consideration.

The purpose of the awards is to stimulate creative research by recognizing a resident and a fellow whose research is judged by a review committee to be the most significant and meritorious during the academic year.  Separate awards will be given for residents and fellows.

The research may be in any field of biomedical or behavioral sciences, either clinical or non-clinical, must be original work designed and conducted by the resident or fellow, and must be conducted during the training years at UCSF Fresno.

The basis of the award will be single scientific paper in final draft form worthy of publication in a peer-reviewed journal.  Acceptance for publication is not necessary at the time the paper is submitted.  Abstracts and chapters cannot be accepted.  Award winners may not have won this award previously.  Research papers may be re-submitted from previous years.  A list of scholarly activities along with a CV should be attached.

The Scholarly Activities Committee of the GMEC, which consists of faculty members and scientists in the Fresno medical and scientific community, will judge the submissions.  The paper should be submitted by Friday, May 9 to:  UCSF Fresno Grants and Research Office, 155 North Fresno Street, Fresno, CA 93701 attn:  Kent Yamaguchi, MD, Chair, Scholarly Activities Committee.  If you have any questions call 499-6414.

 

FACULTY RESEARCH

We are pleased to announce THE TWENTY-SECOND ANNUAL FACULTY RESEARCH AWARD.  The purpose of this award is to stimulate creative research by recognizing the faculty member whose research is judged by a review committee to be the most significant and meritorious during the academic year.  The award, which carries a $1,000 allowance for conference travel, research material, or classes will be presented at the UCSF Fresno Housestaff Graduation on Thursday, June 12, 2008.

All faculty members (part-time or full-time) at UCSF Fresno are eligible for this award.  The research may be in any field of biomedical or behavioral sciences, either clinical or non-clinical.  It must be original work in which the faculty member serves as principal investigator while a member of the UCSF Fresno faculty.  The basis of the award will be a body of scholarly work during the tenure of the faculty member at UCSF Fresno.  An example of this work should be submitted as a scientific paper in draft form, worthy of publication in a peer-reviewed journal.  Acceptance for publication is not a requirement.  Abstracts and chapters cannot be accepted.  Previous recipients of this award are not eligible.  Research papers may be re-submitted from previous years.  A list of scholarly activities or a CV should be attached that includes evidence or all research activity while at UCSF Fresno.
