UCSF FRESNO ULTRASOUND FELLOWSHIP
We are pleased to offer an Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship. Our emergency ultrasound program began over 15 years ago with one machine and one key faculty, Dr. Carolyn Chooljian. Since that time, our program has grown to include three faculty trained in ultrasound and four machines in our department. Our residents embrace ultrasound and learn its use and applications as an integrated part of their emergency medicine education.
All residents are required to complete 175 studies in the areas of aorta, EFAST, renal, cardiac, pelvic, biliary, and procedural ultrasound. They also receive nine hours of didactics per year in addition to the opportunity to attend 3-4 ultrasound clinics per month devoted to hands-on teaching of image acquisition. Residents with a special interest in ultrasound go on to participate in a senior area of concentration where they review monthly ultrasound literature, attend image reviews, and participate in ultrasound teaching within the department.
Our department offers a special one month emergency ultrasound elective for medical students. During this month, students spend time learning the basics of point of care ultrasound including image acquisition and interpretation. They also attend weekly image reviews and prepare case presentations and images which are added to our web based image database and teaching files.
We look forward to having emergency ultrasound fellows join our team as we continue to build our ultrasound program. Our objective is to train fellows with the goals of improving patient care and educating others in the academic and private settings.
